We moved into our new house about a year ago. Everything seemed perfect. The neighborhood was quiet, the house was beautiful, and we were excited to settle in. Our neighbors, the Johnsons, were cool. They welcomed us with a pie and friendly smiles.
But three months later, I accidentally found a note from the previous owner tucked inside a kitchen drawer.

- Man Screamed, ‘If You Can’t Afford a Baby, Maybe Don’t Have One!’ at a Sobbing Nurse at a Grocery Store – And My Life Took a Sharp Turn After That
I went to the grocery store for a pack of lightbulbs and fully intended to leave in under ten minutes. That was the […]
“Beware of the Johnsons. They’ll make your life hell. Don’t put them too close.”
I was freaked out a bit, but it seemed too late to change anything. Each weekend we invited them to our pool and grill. We got along well, exchanging recipes, and books, and asking their advice about garden design.
But last week, when we returned home from our vacation, we were LIVID to find that the pool, the garden, and the driveway were a complete disaster. The pool was drained and filled with leaves and dirt, the garden beds had been trampled and destroyed, and the driveway was covered with graffiti and oil stains.
My first thought was vandalism, but when I saw the Johnsons standing on their porch, casually sipping coffee and smirking at our reaction, I knew something was wrong. They seemed too comfortable with the chaos that had taken over our property.
Fuming, I marched over to confront them. “Did you see what happened to our house while we were away?”
Mr. Johnson chuckled. “Oh, things happen when you leave your home unattended. It’s a shame, really.”
Mrs. Johnson added, “Maybe you should have asked someone trustworthy to keep an eye on things.”
Their smugness was infuriating. The note from the previous owner echoed in my mind. Could they have done this? But why? We had been nothing but friendly to them.
That night, I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about the note and the Johnsons’ reaction. Early the next morning, I decided to investigate further. I went online and searched for any information about the Johnsons or the previous owner. What I found was shocking.
The Johnsons had a history of disputes with previous neighbors. Multiple forums and social media posts described how they had terrorized anyone who moved in next door, using petty sabotage and psychological warfare to drive them away. It was clear we were their new targets.
Determined to not let them win, I devised a plan. I installed security cameras around our property and set up a meeting with a local attorney to discuss our options. We also reached out to the neighborhood association to inform them of our situation.
A few days later, the cameras caught the Johnsons red-handed. They were seen entering our yard and tampering with our property. Armed with this evidence, we confronted them once more, this time with the footage playing on our phone.
“We know what you’ve been doing,” I said, holding the phone up for them to see. “This ends now.”
Their faces paled as they watched themselves on the screen. Mr. Johnson tried to stammer an excuse, but we cut him off.
“We’ve already contacted our lawyer and the neighborhood association,” my spouse added. “If you come near our property again, we will press charges.”
The Johnsons retreated into their house, and for the first time since moving in, we felt a sense of relief. The next few weeks were tense, but they kept their distance. Our garden began to recover, and we repainted the driveway. The pool, however, took a bit longer to fix, but eventually, it was back to its sparkling best.
In the end, the note from the previous owner was a blessing. It had prepared us for the worst and helped us take action before things escalated further. The Johnsons may have tried to make our lives hell, but we stood our ground and protected our home.
We learned a valuable lesson: sometimes, the warnings we receive aren’t just paranoia. They’re a heads-up for what’s to come. And thanks to that warning, we were able to turn the tables and reclaim our peace.
